Since I received the invitation to the release of the new cocktail menu of this charming restaurant in the heart of La Jolla I was very curious to see and try if they taste as good as they look.

One of the things I have to state is that the guys behind the bar know exactly what they are doing. Joan Villanueva and Trevor Kelly are hands down two creative minds. They really know how to mix together unusual ingredients and turn it into unique outstanding cocktails.

To call the night, the guests got to pick any cocktail from the cocktail book. One of the drinks on the new menu is called CARIOCA, inspired by the most popular Brazilian cocktail: the caipirinha. Obviously I had to pick that one!

At first it kind of didn't make any sense to my well trained Brazilian mind. Caipirinha is made out of lime, sugar and cachaça and their brazilian inpired cocktail has frozen grapes cubes on it, plus they shake the drink on a shaker. In Brazil we don´t shake caipirinha.

In my mind lime doesn't go well with grapes, but believe me, it was the perfect cocktail! From now on I am adding frozen grape cubes to all my caipirinhas and of course I will always refer the grapes to this creative minds behind the bar of THE HAKE.

Make sure to add The Hake Kitchen and Bar to your San Diego  must go list.
